174th Thyagaraja Aradhanai Festival

Thyagaraja Aradhana, dedicated to Saint Thyagaraja one among the trinities of carnatic music.
Thyagaraja Aradhanai is held on Pushya Bahugula Panchami.
This is one of the oldest music festivals in the world which is celebrated on the banks of river Kaveri at Thiruvaiyaru.
Thyagaraja swami has sung more than 24000 keertanai out of which some 800 keertanai are sung in today’s period.
The identification of those keertanai is that all of them ends with his name as signature “Shri Thyagaraja”.

The Thyagaraja swami temple (Jeeva Samadhi) is at Thiruvaiyaru, Trichy.
It is beleived that he has chanted 96 thousand crores Rama Tharaka Mantra in his lifetime which resulted in Sri Ram Darshan at Thiruvaiyaru.

The episode goes like this:
One day, after finishing his daily prayers he sat at the sannidanam and was immersed in his songs. In a while, his wife saw Lord Shri Ram along Wife Sita, brother Lakshmana and Bhakt Hanuman had come to bless them and give darshan to Saint Thyagaraja. That day the lord promised him that he will take him to his abode.

Days passed, one day when Thyagaraja was really worried that lord Ram has forgetten his promise, he started singing his keertanai suddenly he attained moksha in one spark. That was his last keertanai indeed.

Now that place is constructed as a temple. Worth visiting to get the holy darshan of the great saint samadhi.
